You’ve probably done this before: Get an insane craving for a particular song and call into your local radio station and force them to play it to you. Maybe you’ve even requested a song for a lover, a friend or an enemy?
But have you ever requested a radio station’s first song? That’s like being involved in a tiny slice of music history.
Colorado Public Radio’s OpenAir is once it transitions from 1340 AM to 102.3 FM on Jan. 27. Earlier this month, , promising improved audio quality and greater reach.
“From now until Jan. 26th, we’re taking suggestions as to which songs should ring in our 102.3 debut on the 27th.”
That’s a ton of pressure. What are you going to choose? Here are our suggestions:
Bright Eyes’ “First Day of My Life”? That’s a great song, and fitting for the occasion, but might be a little too earnest.
Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”? It would be kinda funny to Rick Roll all of OpenAir’s listeners, but also kind of annoying.
Slayer’s “Reborn”? Again, fitting, but probably waay too intense.
Born in the Flood’s “Starting Over Sucks”? That’s on the right track, but in this case starting over is pretty awesome.
Matt and Kim’s “AM/FM Sound”? Too obvious.
The Apples in Stereo’s “Dream About the Future”? Hmmm local connection. Cheerful. Fitting band and song name? Might be a good option…
Radiohead’s “Everything in its Right Place”? Only if I ran a radio station.
Anyway, you can make a suggestion by commenting on the OpenAir Facebook page, by tweeting at them, by calling at 303-871-9191 ext. 340 or commenting on their blog post.
