The state health insurance exchange reported Tuesday that 113,864 Coloradans signed up for a 2015 medical plan between Nov. 15 and year’s end.
That number includes 20,790 people new to the marketplace and 93,074 re-enrollments, according to Connect for Health Colorado.
Also between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31, an additional 35,981 individuals enrolled for Medicaid coverage and 1,517 children were added to the rolls of the public insurance called Child Health Plan Plus. However, these forms of public insurance are year-round programs that do not limit the enrollment window for those who qualify.
Officials with the state health insurance exchange, created under the Affordable Care Act, said the last two weeks of December saw health plan enrollments increase by 5,787 and dental plans increase by 993. Total dental-plan enrollment in the initial six-week period was 19,068 individuals.
A record-breaking one-day total of 12,600 people enrolled on Dec. 15, the last day to sign up for health coverage effective Jan. 1.
Open enrollment continues through Feb. 15. For those wanting coverage effective Feb. 1, the deadline to apply is Jan. 15.
In 2014, the first year the exchange was operational, about 148,000 enrolled for private insurance — including those who had changes in life circumstances that allowed them to sign up after open enrollment closed. Almost 100,000 of them received tax credits that effectively reduced their premiums.
