The hard-charging spokeswoman for Andrew Romanoff’s campaign for Congress has landed at a Denver political consulting firm, ensuring she’ll stay involved in Colorado politics.
Denise Baron’s hiring by OnSight Public Affairs, as a project director, means that the spokespersons for both candidates in suburban Denver’s have moved on to new roles. For Tyler Sandberg, who served as Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman’s campaign manager and spokesman, it’s meant and a move to Washington, D.C.
Baron spent the campaign as deputy campaign manager and communications director for Romanoff, a former Colorado House speaker who out-raised Coffman but lost by 9 percentage points. That result came in a district seen as competitive because of a near-equal distribution of registered Democrats, Republicans and unaffiliated voters.
But Coffman, in winning a fourth term in Congress, was able to capitalize on a Republican wave — — last fall.
At OnSight, Baron is joining a Democratic-leaning strategy, fundraising and communications shop founded by Mike Melanson and Ben Davis. The Democratic duo spearheaded former Sen. Mark Udall’s 2008 campaign and Gov. John Hickenlooper’s 2010 campaign.
Baron, who hails from the Chicago area, cut her political teeth working on campaigns in Indiana before moving to Colorado three years ago.
