The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission is streamlining the process by which it receives citizen complaints about the oil and gas industry by creating a dedicated Web page.
The page can be reached by clicking “Complaints” in the left column of the COGCC home page at .
The page includes guidance on how to file a written complaint and what rights the complaining individual has.
The commission said the Web page is one of the latest steps that COGCC, which regulates oil and gas activity in Colorado, has taken to improve its oversight.
Since 2011, COGCC has crafted rules to decrease setbacks, reduce nuisance impacts, protect groundwater, cut emissions, disclose hydraulic fracturing chemicals, increase spill reporting and significantly elevate penalties for operators violating commission rules.
The commission also has expanded oversight staff significantly, intensified collaboration with local governments, sponsored ongoing studies to increase understanding of impacts to air and water, and adopted several formal policies to address health and safety issues brought about by new technologies and increased energy development in Colorado.
