Denver used a new acoustic sensor system called a Shot Spotter to track down three suspects in a shooting Thursday night and confiscate a gun, police said Friday.

Only a few hours they tracked the suspects to their hiding place in the 3100 block of Williams Street.

All three suspects were wanted on arrest warrants, according to Ronald Hackett, a Denver police spokesman.

The names of the three suspects have not been released.

Shot Spotter uses a network of acoustic sensors to detect when a gun is fired and then precisely and quickly pinpoints the location of the gunfire.

In less than a minute, officers and 911 dispatchers are notified where the shootings happen, Hackett said.

“Shot Spotter helps speed police response, has the potential to save lives, increases weapons-related arrests, and enhances the safety of our neighborhoods,” he said.

At about 8 p.m. Thursday, Shot Spotter detected gunfire on Williams Street in northeast Denver.

Shortly after police arrived, they found multiple shell casings on the ground. They also found evidence that a house was struck by bullets.
