Two Denver police officers injured during a traffic stop Friday night have been released from a hospital, and a suspect who was shot during the confrontation is in stable condition.

The suspect, who has yet to be identified, remains in custody at Denver Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, said Detective Mary McIver, Denver police spokeswoman.

The two injured police officers were treated at a hospital and released, McIver said.

Denver police have not yet clarified the circumstances that led to the shooting and the injuries to police.

There is an investigative hold on the suspect, who will face multiple charges that could include aggravated assault, McIver said.

If the suspect intentionally used the car as a deadly weapon, he could face serious charges, McIver said.

Detectives thoroughly investigated the scene of the shooting and collisions with officers and interviewed numerous witnesses through the early-morning hours Saturday, she said.

Before making a decision on what charges to hold the suspect on, the detectives needed to interview all witnesses, including the injured officers, she said. McIver said she didn’t know whether that has happened yet.

The police officers had pulled the suspect over for a traffic stop at 8 p.m. Friday in the 5100 block of Crown Boulevard.

At the scene, a Jeep had come to rest in a yard after hitting a tree in the residential neighborhood near Montbello High School.

One witness in the neighborhood said he saw the suspect being chased by three patrol cars.
