Police in the Western Slope town of Fruita are investigating a shooting on Sunday night that left a woman dead and a man seriously wounded.

Officers responding to reports of an intoxicated subject found the two in a home on the 1000 block of East Kiefer Avenue.

“Officers arrived at the residence and upon entry discovered an adult male and an adult female with what appeared to be serious injuries caused by a firearm,” police said.

The man was rushed to a hospital and the woman was pronounced dead on the scene, according to Officer Ross Young.

“This incident remains under active investigation,” police said. “The Fruita Police Department is currently not searching for a suspect.”

Young said police would not immediately be releasing further details in the shooting.

Fruita is a town of roughly 12,000 located off Interstate 70 about four miles west of Grand Junction.
