Prominent women’s-rights attorney Gloria Allred is joining the chorus of voices denouncing Bill Cosby’s Jan. 17 shows at the Buell Theatre.

The Los Angeles-based attorney will hold a “Teach In Speak Out” session at 2 p.m. at Denver’s Crawford Hotel, 1701 Wynkoop St., on Jan. 17.

Cosby is scheduled to take the stage for 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. comedy shows.

Allred last month flanked by a trio of Cosby’s accusers, suggesting Cosby should settle the growing number of sexual assault claims against him. More than two dozen women have said Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted them in incidents .

“I think it’s important for the community in Denver to understand why women have made the allegations,” Allred told The Denver Post this afternoon. “It’s also important to know what (Cosby’s) response has been, how this performance is impacting the alleged victims, and what the people of Denver can do about this.”

Allred, who is representing seven of Cosby’s accusers, declined to name specific actions people could take. She said she will discuss them at the event, after which she plans to attend a protest in advance of Cosby’s 5 p.m. show. Her “Teach In” event will also include an unnamed Denver woman who said she is a victim of Cosby’s “sexual misconduct.”

The event is free and open to the public, but attendees must RSVP no later than 4 p.m. on Jan. 16 by e-mailing carol-lease@empowermentprogram.org with their name, phone number and e-mail address.

“I’m very excited about what I’m hearing coming out of Denver,” said Allred. “I’m looking forward to meeting the activists and those who oppose this performance in person.”
