The Big Three on the Broncos’ coaching staff just 48 hours ago might be closing in on leading three other NFL teams.
According to multiple NFL sources, offensive coordinator Adam Gase is interviewing with the San Francisco 49ers in the Denver area on Tuesday. Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio is interviewing with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday in the Bay area.
And former Broncos head coach John Fox is expected to interview with the Chicago Bears for their head coaching job.
As for the other Broncos’ assistant coaches, they shouldn’t be hurting for options.
It’s the second interview for Del Rio with the Raiders and Gase with the 49ers. As for Fox, his connection with the Bears is through the New Orleans Saints. The Bears last week named Ryan Pace as their new general manager. Pace was hired away from the Saints where he had worked his way up to director of player personnel.
In New Orleans, Pace worked closely with head coach Sean Payton, who has been close with Fox since the two were coordinators together with the New York Giants in 2000-01.
Gase makes sense with the 49ers as he has the coaching acumen to bring along talented, young but still raw quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Del Rio grew up near Raiders country in Hayward, California.
Fox can rebuild the Bears’ defense and has the “Uncle Foxy” personality and experience to deal with enigmatic quarterback Jay Cutler.
