A woman was killed Tuesday after the driver of a stolen vehicle fled from police in Denver and crashed.

The wreck happened about 8 a.m. near the intersection of East 46th Avenue and Race Street where the male driver, later identified as 23-year-old Joseph Ogara, appeared to lose control of the vehicle. Ogara suffered minor injuries while a female passenger was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and later died, police said.

Police said Ogara is being held for investigation of vehicular homicide and other felony charges.

Initially, officers working the National Western Stock Show spotted the vehicle and determined it “didn’t look right.” They found the vehicle was stolen and initiated a traffic stop, at which point the vehicle fled.

Pursuing officers found the crashed vehicle about a quarter-mile from their initial contact point.

Police did not immediately have information on where or when the car was stolen.

Roads in the area were closed while police investigate.
