Adam Gase is now a head-coaching candidate for the Broncos.

Gase, the Broncos’ offensive coordinator, and San Francisco defensive line coach Jim Tomsula were the two finalists for the 49ers head job.

Gase received a second interview Tuesday from 49ers general manager Trent Baalke in the Denver area. Baalke went back to the Bay Area on Tuesday night, though, and as of Wednesday morning, was still waffling between Gase and Tomsula.

Tomsula is the choice, according to an NFL source.

Gase, meanwhile, moves on by possibly staying put. He met with Broncos general manager John Elway on Wednesday morning to discuss Denver’s head-coaching position that became open Monday with the .

If Gase doesn’t get promoted to head coach, there’s a decent chance he could return for a third season as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator.
