Construction crews have closed off a segment of West 64th Avenue between Federal Boulevard and Pecos Street in unincorporated Adams County for one year to build a bridge for the Regional Transportation District’s Northwest Rail Line.

The road will be closed from Beach Street to West 64th Place until January 2016. RTD officials said commuters should detour around the work by using Interstate 76 or 72nd Avenue.

The Clear Creek Trail and Little Dry Creek Trail through the area will also be closed to pedestrian and bicycle traffic until next year.

Crews will install the bridge over the railroad tracks and then rip up and replace the closed-off section of 64th Avenue. Ten-foot sidewalks to the south of the road will also be installed.

The Northwest Rail Line will stretch 41 miles from Denver to Longmont, winding through unincorporated Adams County. The first 6.2-mile segment from Union Station in Denver to 71st Avenue and Lowell Boulevard in Westminster is scheduled to be done in 2016.
