Police in Denver say a person seriously injured in a downtown stabbing early Friday morning later died at a hospital he was rushed to.

The stabbing happened about 5 a.m. near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Pearl Street on the sidewalk in front of several businesses. Responding officers found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Patrol cars flooded the area after the stabbing, guarding the crime scene cordoned off by yellow police tape. A bloodied cloth and debris lined the sidewalk where the stabbing apparently took place.

Police said they did not immediately have any suspect information to release. Officials say detectives are interviewing witnesses, but ask anyone with information on the stabbing to come forward.

Police say the coroner’s office will release the victims identity pending next of kin notification.

Authorities say an investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing.
