Authorities in Jefferson County are asking for help in finding a suspect caught on video punching a liquor store owner in the mouth in mid-December before being wrestled out of the store.

The assault happened on the night of Dec. 19 after a male suspect entered Canyon Liquors Store on the 30500 block of Colorado Highway 72 and a clerk recognized him as someone who had stolen two bottles of liquor several weeks earlier.

“The clerk notified the store owner and the owner confronted the suspect by asking for his identification,” the county sheriff’s office said in a news release. “The suspect responded by attacking the owner and punching him in the mouth. The two wrestled around before the owner was able to push the suspect out of the store.”

The struggle left the owner with minor injuries.

The suspect fled in a vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office tip line at (303) 271-5612.
