Three suspects in a reported carjacking jumped out of the car and ran away just after Denver police pulled the car over during a traffic stop, police say.

Police arrested two of the suspects, but the third man managed to escape, according to a Denver police Tweet posted at 3:57 p.m.

Authorities had been searching for the stolen car the past few days after it was taken during an armed carjacking, said Ron Hackett, Denver police spokesman.

Police pulled the car over during a regular traffic stop near the intersection of South Irving Street and West Colorado Avenue, Hackett said.

When the officer ran a computer check on the license plate he learned of its status.

At some point during the stop the three people jumped out of the car and took off running, Hackett said.

Police set up a perimeter and are searching for the third suspect.
