LAS VEGAS — UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been fined $25,000 by the mixed martial arts promotion for violating its code of conduct by failing a drug test.

The UFC announced the fine Saturday.

Jones tested positive for the main metabolite of cocaine one month before his fight against Daniel Cormier on Jan. 3. He was allowed to fight because cocaine is not a banned out-of-competition substance under World Anti-Doping Agency rules.

Jones spent one night in a drug rehabilitation facility after his test was revealed this month, according to his mother.

The UFC’s athlete code allows the promotion to fine any fighter for conduct detrimental to the UFC. The UFC says it will donate Jones’ fine to a substance abuse prevention program.

Jones has won eight consecutive title defenses.
