A dogfight at a Lakewood dog park ended when someone stabbed one of the animals, according to Detective Ryan Mc Kone, a spokesman for Lakewood police.
Lakewood Animal Control is asking for the public’s help to identify whoever injured the dog. The incident happened Friday afternoon at the Dog Park at Forsberg Park, 15900W. Alameda Parkway.
Animal Control got a call about a dogfight at the park, McKone said.
When Animal Control officers arrived, they found a dog with a puncture wound to the side, and didn’t know if the wound resulted from a fight or a knife, said McKone.
“They arrived and they see the victim dog on its side, and its owner was holding a shirt or a piece of cloth on its side,” McKone said.
“A lot of people came to separate the two dogs, so the owner of the victim dog didn’t see who stabbed him.”
The dog was transported to Fox Hollow Animal Hospital, where an examination found a knife had penetrated 5 inches into the dog’s side, according to a post on the animal hospital’s website.
Fox Hollow is closed Sunday, and no one at the hospital could be reached for comment.
“Around 3 p.m., we received a phone call that a dog had been stabbed and was bleeding so profusely that they were afraid to transport him,” according to Fox Hollow’s website.
The injured male dog is named Tyni, according to the Facebook post, and he is in stable condition. He is lucky that the knife stopped about 5 inches in and he was able to get into surgery immediately.
“He is a big teddy bear with an even bigger heart,” the post said.
