Police in Grand Junction began investigating a shooting on Sunday night after a man was found with a bullet hole in his pants, the round having missed his body.

The shooting happened at about 6 p.m. on the 400 block of Chipeta Avenue where officers were called out on reports that shots had been fired.

“The victim had run from the scene, but officers later found him nearby hiding in a tree,” police said. “It appears a bullet did go through his pants, but missed his body. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution to be evaluated.”

Police say they have not located a suspect and that they are gathering more information and evidence.

Officials said they will release more information as it becomes available.
