Authorities in Weld County have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting Tuesday night that left a 45-year-old man injured in his home with bullet wounds to his hand and leg.
Jimmie Barragan, 54, was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and four counts of child abuse. Barragan was arrested “after a short investigation” and taken to the county jail, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies were dispatched to reports of a shooting at about 8 p.m. in the 15200 block of Mary Avenue in the Aristocrat Acres neighborhood, just northeast of Fort Lupton. They found a man suffering from wounds that they believed were not life-threatening.
The man, who has not been identified, was flown to the Denver Health medical center, the sheriff’s office said.
Sgt. Sean Standridge said the child abuse charges against Barragan stem from the fact that juveniles were present when the shooting happened.
Barragan is being held in lieu of $150,000 bond, court records show.
