Police in Aurora are investigating a fatal, single-vehicle motorcycle crash Tuesday morning that left a 45-year-old man dead.

The wreck was discovered at about 6:30 a.m. on the 12000 block of East 33rd Avenue where officers found the motorcycle down on its side on the far north end of a parking lot “just over the curb line.”

Police found a man’s body in a ditch a few feet away from the motorcycle. The man was not wearing a helmet and appeared to have suffered “severe head trauma,” authorities say.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It appears the motorcycle was traveling through the parking lot, northbound, at a high rate of speed when the driver attempted to brake, lost control, and the bike went down on the concrete, sliding and striking the curb line,” police said.

Police say they are not sure exactly when the crash happened.

“We believe speed was a contributing factor in this crash,” police said. “We are not releasing names at this time.”
