Police in Brighton are investigating after a 31-year-old woman with a gunshot wound sought help at a convenience store and collapsed.

The Brighton Police Department said they were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. Sunday to a 7-Eleven store at 1012 East Bridge Street.

Investigators said the victim was at a party at a shed behind 146 North 9th Avenue when a fight escalated and she was shot. That’s when she fled on foot to a Western Convenience store at 1351 East Bridge St., seeking help, and continued on to the 7-Eleven where she collapsed.

Police said the woman was expected to survive. Her name and condition were not released.

Brighton police said the relationship between the shooter and the victim was unclear.

Police did not have a suspect or vehicle description in the case.
