The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said an acid-type device exploded near a young child Tuesday in Dad Clark Park off of McArthur Ranch Road in Highlands Ranch.

The child was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries following the incident, which officials said happened around 2 p.m.

Detectives said the device was created inside a plastic bottle. The child and four other friends he was playing with at the park saw the bottle on the basketball court and touched it.

Detectives from the sheriff’s office searched the park, and no other devices were found. An investigation is underway to determine who made the device and left it in the park.

The sheriff’s office said it believes the incident was an isolated circumstance.
