Denver broke its 71-year-old record high for the date on Friday morning when temperature hit 69 degrees at the Denver International Airport.

Forecasters are calling for a high of 71 by the day’s end on Friday. The record high for the date was 67 set in 1944.

The National Weather Service says Friday’s predicted warmth is “well above” seasonal averages.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible in the foothills and mountains during the day Friday. Those gusts could jump to 70 mph at night.

Saturday’s temperatures are set to top out at 69, according to the weather service.
