A Denver-area construction contractor has been accused of defrauding seven people — including a 74-year-old — after he was paid to complete work that he never undertook.
Brice Addleman, 39, has been charged with one count of theft from an at-risk elder and two counts of theft of between $20,000 and $100,000, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said.
The office, which oversees Adams and Broomfield counties, says Addleman’s criminal activities occurred throughout the metro area.
“The victims contracted with Addleman Construction and paid Addleman more than $70,000,” the office said in a news release. “He provided materials worth about $7,500 to three of the victims but did not complete the work. The other victims received nothing for the money they paid to Addleman.”
The alleged 74-year-old victim gave Addleman a $20,000 down payment for a barn that was never built. Officials say that money was instead used to settle a dispute with another customer who was defrauded.
Addleman was arrested Wednesday and posted $20,000 bond. He is next due in court on Feb. 26.
