Re: “Senate Republicans slash renewable energy standards on initial vote,” Feb. 4 news story.

The GOP-led effort to roll back Colorado’s renewable-energy standards applicable to investor-owned utilities is unfortunate and short-sighted. With ever-increasing demands for energy and finite natural resources, abandoning non-renewable sources of energy should be this generation’s Apollo moon mission.

By encouraging delays in transitioning to renewable energy sources, the Republicans’ efforts only increase the likelihood of a very uncomfortable period in the future when we are forced to make the transition, rather than being able to do so gradually and with minimal disruptions to our economy and our standard of living.
