
Two breweries are taking a Slow Ride into U.S. District Court in Denver over a trademark dispute.
last week filed a lawsuit against Oasis Brewing Co. of Austin, Texas, over the beer name “Slow Ride.”
New Belgium, the third-largest craft brewer in the country, which is the name of its session-style India Pale Ale released last summer. New Belgium says “five months after we filed to register the Slow Ride name, Oasis filed for trademark.”
, says it started selling Slow Ride Pale Ale before New Belgium “had any intention of making a product under the same title. Our product hit the market in mid-May, prior to their application for a trademark.”
under the label “New Belgium Session IPA” until the issue is resolved.
Oasis says it will continue producing its Slow Ride Pale Ale. New Belgium is asking the courts to allow both breweries to continue using the name, but restricting the Oasis beer to counties surrounding Austin.
