The possibility of snow is in the forecast for the upcoming weekend, and that makes Denver Golf Expo operator and owner Mark Cramer smile.

The three-day event begins Friday at the Denver Mart, located at 58th Avenue and Interstate 25.

“We do better when there’s a little bit of snow,” Cramer said. “If it’s ‘golf weather,’ golfers are out playing golf instead of coming to the expo.”

Annually attracting about 10,000 visitors, the Denver Golf Expo features 120 exhibitors this year. Exhibitors include representatives of golf courses, equipment sales, golf trips, golf art and antiques, apparel and others.

Free lectures regarding rules and golf instruction are held throughout the day.

Hands-on stations always rank among the most popular attractions. In addition to a practice range and a long-putt contest, new this year is a pitching area and a “closest to the pin” contest that allows participants to swing a club and hit a ball into a computerized simulator.

Some contests will award stay-and-play golf packages at popular resorts in several states.

A kids area, called “Junior Golf Central,” will provide youngsters, including those new to the game, an opportunity to hit balls and receive basic lessons.

Hours for the expo are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m-5 p.m. Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $13 for adults, $11 for seniors age 55 and older, $11 for active military with I.D., and $3 for youth 16 and younger.

Tickets may be purchased at the gate, at King Soopers locations or through .
