Getting your player ready...

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. — So, Rockies, what did you do during your offseason vacation? (Besides growing facial hair, that is).

Reliever Rex Brothers got married to his wife, Jill, on Nov. 8 in Nashville. Then the happy couple honeymooned in St. Lucia in the Eastern Caribbean.

“Amazing, just awesome,” said Brothers, who is a now sporting a scraggly beard in hopes he can catch up to his hairy teammates.

Lefty reliever Christian Friedrich and outfielder Charlie Blackmon attending the X-Games together in Aspen last month.

“First time I’ve been there in the winter,” Friedrich said. “It was so cool. It made me want to buy a ski-in, ski-out place. I can’t ski or board now, of course, but one of these day I want to snowboard.”

Just a suggestion to Mr. Friedrich: You might want to check out the real estate prices in Aspen before you get too starry-eyed.

Said Blackmon: “It was so cool. I’d never been around the ski culture before. I really liked it.”

Of course, with Blackmon’s beard bolder than ever, boarding looks more likely than skiing.

Catcher Michael McKenry and his wife, Jaclyn, drove from their home in Murfreesboro, Tenn. to Scottdale, leaving just as ferocious arctic blast arrived to put the South in a deep freeze.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” McKenry said. “The only ones still on the road were us and the big truckers. There were cars and trucks scattered all over the sides of the highways. There was ice everywhere. It was like something out of the apocalypse.”
