The Arvada Economic Development Association is offering grant money to local business owners looking to improve the exterior of their property.

If approved, applicants will be reimbursed for half of construction costs on projects up to $30,000, said Allison Trembly, the association’s marketing manager and program lead.

The total amount of grant money is $100,000.

To qualify, each business must be located in a commercial or industrial property and be able to provide the full amount of funds upfront. Facade improvements that beautify the area and provide benefits for residents and the city as a whole are what the association is looking for, Trembly said.

“A lot of times you hear people say there’s nothing out there for small businesses; this is something strictly for them to participate in and helps them get something done above and beyond what they maybe originally intended,” she added.

Since the Arvada Small Business Grant began in 2011, the development association has allocated $860,855 to 78 Arvada businesses.

One of those was a grant doled out in 2013 to shortly after opening an industrial park east of Wadsworth Boulevard at 5535 W. 56th Ave.

The $1,500 was spent on signage that can be seen from Ralston Road.

“It wasn’t much money, but it’s definitely paid off for us and has gone a long way,” said Odyssey Beerwerks co-owner Chris Hill. “This place is kind of hidden so having a nice, well-lit sign that can be seen from Ralston Road has helped bring a lot of attention to the business park.”
