LONGMONT — The City Council on Tuesday will consider spending $16,500 from its contingency fund to send three members to Chino, Japan.
Chino and Longmont have been sister cities since 1990, and the annual student exchange began in 1991.
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the relationship, Chino Mayor Chiyokazu Yanagidaira invited Mayor Dennis Coombs to join eight Longmont students on a five-day trip in July.
Coombs was unavailable, but council members Bonnie Finley, Gabe Santos and Polly Christensen expressed interest in going. Staff pegged the cost at $5,500 for each. If such costs are taken from the fund, there would be $43,500 available until April, when it is replenished for the year.
