The Colorado State Patrol has identified the 38-year-old killed in a two-vehicle crash in the southwestern part of the state early Thursday.

Officials believe excessive speed for the winter conditions and unsafe tires contributed to the crash.

Kalvin Lee Boyles,of Saguache, was killed after losing control, crossing into oncoming traffic and slamming into a semi-trailer on U.S. 285 about three miles north of Monte Vista, the patrol said.

Boyles was driving a 2008 Ford Mustang.

Boyles, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the semi-trailer, who was wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured.

The state patrol says it doesn’t believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
