A commercial jet accident in New York City has temporarily grounded air traffic at LaGuardia Airport and Denver, along with other cities across the national, will see a ripple effect.
A Delta flight, carrying 125 passengers and five crew members, veered off a runway at around 11:10 a.m., authorities said.
Early reports indicated that injuries appear to be minor.
The plane skidded through a chain-link fence and passengers had to disembark by sliding down an inflated chute to safety on the snowy pavement.
LaGuardia is among the nation’s busiest airports.
“We are seeing a handful of cancellations in the system right now between Denver and LaGuardia, but it’s unknown if those are directly related,” Denver International Airport spokeswoman Laura Coale said. “The airlines with (the most) flights between LaGuardia and Denver are United and Delta. Southwest Airlines has one flight scheduled today.”
There are a 32 flights scheduled between Denver and LaGuardia today, both departures and arrivals.
At about 11:30 a.m. Mountain Time LaGuardia was listing 10 delays and 35 cancellations, according to www.flightaware.com.
Denver listed, at the about same time, 27 delays and nine cancellations, according to the travel website.
Anyone traveling by air on Thursday should check their flight status with their airline.
