No HBO on cable or satellite? No problem. As long as you have an Apple device and $15 a month, you can stream HBO content via a new over-the-top service, HBO Now. The standalone subscription service is slated to begin in early April, coinciding with the season premiere of “Game of Thrones.”
Count this as great news for cord-cutters.
HBO is in negotiations with “its existing network of distributors and new digital partners to offer HBO NOW.” At launch, Apple will be the exclusive provider, with an app available to to iOS devices and on PCs.
According to the announcement, a subcription to HBO Now will mean access to HBO original programming — past, present and future.
“HBO NOW is the next phase of innovation at HBO,” said Richard Plepler, chairman and CEO, HBO. “With this new partnership, a natural evolution for the network, we have access to millions of Apple customers who are used to getting their favorite apps immediately. Now, they can do the same with an HBO subscription.”
Similar to HBO GO (the mobile service for subscribers), HBO NOW will offer more than 2,000 titles online.
