Jake Holtzmann’s senior season didn’t go as swimmingly well as he had hoped. His Chaparral Wolverines went down in the Class 5A Sweet 8 last Saturday at the Denver Coliseum.
However, the University of Denver-bound all-state candidate is eager to participate in the 15th version of The Show, all-star games for boys and girls featured by the Nuggets and Gold Crown Foundation.
Holtzmann, will get to play one more time associated with his school and he’s one of the rare-basketball player-swimmer combinations.
“I’ve always been a Nuggets fan and I’ll get to play with some old teammates and future ones,” Holtzmann said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”
And a former competitive swimmer, Holtzmann said he has joined the co-op boys swimming and diving team of Chaparral, Legend and Ponderosa this spring. He previously had handled the butterfly and breaststroke as a youth, and probably will compete in the freestyle. And he’ll be a tall freestyler — he’s 6-foot-6.
“It’s a great workout and a great sport,” Holtzmann said. I’m looking forward to it.”
He was one of 40 players and four coaches introduced Monday at the Pepsi Center for the annual games that will be held on April 4. The girls will tip off at 1:30 p.m. and boys at 3. The Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers will play at 7 p.m.
