Sen. Cory Gardner is one of 47 senators who signed a letter to Iran warning that any nuclear deal cut with President Obama could expire the day he leaves office. (Craig F. Walker, Denver Post file)
Re: “GOP tries to undercut nuclear deal with warning to Iran,” March 10 news story.
The open letter from 47 GOP senators to Iran not only undermines the current administration but sets a dangerous precedent to undermine future presidents as well. The message, meant for one foreign government, reaches far beyond its borders to the total international community. Be warned that any agreement crafted within the walls of the White House is subject to annulment the minute an acting president leaves office. The United States has not been working alone on the agreement with Iran. The GOP letter works to isolate the U.S. from this collaborative process pitting us against Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia. If the concern is about undermining Israel, stripping the United States of its influence to reach agreements will ultimately prove to be a greater harm for Israel.

This letter was published in the March 11 edition. Our new senator, Cory Gardner, jumped on the Republican bandwagon and informed Iranian leaders their nuclear weapons negotiations with the U.S. could be overturned.
The Denver Postap endorsement of Gardner last fall assured voters Republican control of the Senate would lead to more productive governance, “because both sides temper their policies.”
How’s that playing out so far?
