Public smoking regulations in Breckenridge have been expanded to include prohibition of e-cigarettes, and the areas where public smoking is banned are expanding.

The Summit County town’s smoking ordinance was amended and approved by town council and the new rules go into effect Saturday, according to a Breckenridge Police Department news release.

Police will be working with restaurants, bars and other businesses in regulating to enforce the rules.

“E-cigarettes and similar products will be prohibited in all areas where tobacco use is prohibited,” the release said.

Smoking, which is already prohibited in among other places restaurants, bars and ski area gondolas, also will be banned on golf courses, along recreational paths, athletic fields and playgrounds and public transit waiting areas.
