Remember the band Lifehouse? They were behind that song “Hanging By a Moment” back in 2000. And apparently they have a new song called “Hurricane,” which they performed on a commercial flight from Los Angeles to Denver today.
So why did Lifehouse perform on a plane? Well, it seems to be some sort of sponsored mid-air event that traps innocent passengers on a plane and forces them to listen to early-2000s adult-contemporary rock.
“We are performing on our flight to Denver today!! Rock at 35000 feet,”

But if you’re not one of the band’s 190,000 (!!!) followers, you might never have known. Happily for us and sadly for journalist Jonah Keri, he was on that flight, and decided to share his experience via Twitter.
This Southwest flight has turned into some sort of viral video/flash mob/Lighthouse concert. Might livetweet the resulting passenger revolt.

In 2009, I nearly died in a car crash. Would’ve lost everything-family/friends/my very existence. 10 mins of Lifehouse on a plane was worse.

Maybe that’s a bit hyperbolic, but anyone who’s been trapped in a New York City subway car with unwelcome musicians knows that being confined to a small metal tube while someone forces you to hear their music knows Keri’s pain. This kind of performance is born of the the arrogant assumption that a random group of people will really, really enjoy it if you surprise them with your music.
Back to the original question: Why? It looks like this was part of an ongoing in-flight concert series from Southwest Airlines called . Other artists to be featured have included American Authors, O.A.R., Five for Fighting, Plain White T’s and Better Than Ezra.
