Jeffco’s Standley Lake High School was forced to close on Sept. 19, 2014, because of a mass teacher sickout. (Kathryn Scott Osler, Denver Post file)
Re: “In Jeffco, itap the teachers union vs. open records,” Feb. 26 editorial.
Teachers unions should ultimately support the best education possible for students. However, the Jefferson County Education Association is not living up to this standard because it refuses to release the names of the teachers of Standley Lake High School who called in sick last September to protest the school board’s decisions. I am appalled that classes were canceled due to the teachers’ reckless action. I agree that the teachers union should release the names of the teachers. I think the parents should know the names of these teachers so they can decide which classes their students should take — or if their kids should even attend the school. Teachers who protest by feigning sickness, and thereby disrupt classes, cannot remain in the shadows.
