Denver Public School’s most recent feature video is a story about student Amyre Hollis, the daughter of in the line of duty two years ago.



Amyre, now a sophomore in DPS, spoke out during the discussions about police violence and social justice, feeling she needed to offer her unique perspective reminding people that many police officers do care.

“They get up everyday and risk their lives. They put their lives on the line for someone else,” Amyre says in the video. “Including my mom.”

In response to student protests and walkouts late last year, DPS has been with Denver Police officers and other city officials.

“Her (Amyre’s) perspective challenged and enriched her fellow students and led to deep, thoughtful conversations at MLK,” .

Denver Post’s features reporter Emilie Rusch also profiled following the same student protests and discussions.
