An e-mail phishing scam eminating from Australia and using a website resembling the National Credit Union Administration has lured unsuspecting consumers into sharing sensitive personal information and offering cash, officials warned Tuesday.

The e-mails offer bogus financial services in the United States and Europe, and solicit Social Security numbers, money transfers and login information, NCUA said in a statement.

The originating website — ncuuk.cu.cc — appeared to be down Tuesday, though authorities warn it could become active again. Affected consumers are asked to contact NCUA’s fraud hotline at 1-800-827-9650, as well as their own financial institution.
