Re: “Denver voters need stock show plan details,” March 16 editorial.
The Denver Post gives qualified support to the proposal to extend the lodging and car rental taxes to finance Denver’s plans for the National Western Stock Show complex. And, quite certainly, a redevelopment and expansion of the complex as envisioned in that plan would provide economic benefit to the city. However, it must be remembered that if it is decided to extend these taxes, Denver will have only one opportunity to use the more than $600 million they will generate. Simple economic rationality would demand examining a range of alternatives to determine which of them will provide the greatest benefit to the city. But, of course, the current city administration isn’t going to do that. When the business community says, “Jump!” the only response they know is, “How high?”
