University of Colorado Health is planning a new hospital in Longmont with 50 to 75 inpatient beds, intensive care unit, operating rooms, emergency department, advanced cardiology services and a birth center, officials announced Wednesday.

UCHealth expects to break ground on the $100 million to $125 million facility this year with a grand opening planned for late 2016 or early 2017.

UCHealth officials said the new hospital is expected to boost the Longmont economy with about 500 construction jobs and, once completed, more than 200 new, permanent jobs.

University of Colorado Health’s system includes Memorial Hospital, Poudre Valley Hospital, Medical Center of the Rockies, Colorado Health Medical Group and University of Colorado Hospital. It also partners with the University of Colorado School of Medicine and other community organizations.

“Longmont and Boulder County are growing rapidly, and we’re proud to bring a new hospital to the area to serve patients,” UCHealth President and CEO Elizabeth Concordia said in a statement.
