DENVER (AP) — Colorado state troopers are cracking down on texting and driving this weekend.

Extra patrols are planned at several locations around the state to watch for drivers distracted by texting. The campaign also includes highway signs telling drivers to “Get your head out of your apps”, a slogan the Colorado Department of Transportation borrowed from Iowa.

KMGH-TV (http://bit.ly/1GykyU3 ) reports that 61 people died because of distracted driving in 2013.

The campaign comes after Colorado joined a national effort to dramatically reduce traffic deaths.
