A new charter elementary school is opening this fall in Denver Public Schools and it’s a unique model. Located on a lovely historic campus in Congress Park, REACH charter will open with preschool through second grade, and they will add a grade each year until they become a full PK-5 elementary.
“What’s really different about REACH,” says experienced charter school principal, Chris Ferris, “is that we are developing individualized learning plans for each child. So if your child is advanced in reading but needs some support in math, or if your child is a strong student overall but needs some support developing social emotional skills, we will develop a plan tailored just for them.” REACH will have three teachers for every two classes that will enable them to create small, targeted groups for instruction. They will also be using a blended learning approach in which students will have specific lessons assigned to them on a computer so each student can progress at his/her pace. All the REACH teachers will receive professional development in strategies for Gifted Learners and in Universal Design for Learning, which is a method for creating lesson plans that takes into account the characteristics of each learner. REACH charter school has limited spots available in grades K to 2 in the second round of school choice which starts on March 16. More information is available on the school’s website at REACHpk5.org or by calling 720-446-8927. Join REACH to reimagine learning for your child.
