A motorcycle driver and passenger near Shaffers Crossing, officials said.
Around 5 p.m. Saturday, a Jeep Cherokee was southbound on U.S. 285 and a Buell motorcycle was northbound when the Jeep crossed the double yellow lines, colliding with the motorcycle, said Colorado State Patrol trooper Josh Lewis.
The rider and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle, Lewis said, and pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, 43-year-old Nina Gonzalez of Crestone, was uninjured and stayed on the scene, Lewis said.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash, Lewis said, but speed is being investigated.
The crash shut down the highway west of Denver for several hours.
The crash is still under investigation.
