Well, here’s some unfortunate news that I hate to pass along: Volta, a lovely Mediterranean restaurant in Boulder that offered great plates and plenty of style, closes the night of Sunday March 29.
Owners Jon and Eleni Deering said in a statement that they felt “challenged by the location and are feeling the call of the Pacific Northwest.”
But they are not departing meekly. You can land a free drink just by wishing them well on their Facebook page. If you find a blue ribbon in your napkin when you dine with them this week, you can land anything from a free dessert to a comped tab. Best of all, if you’re always died to try something fancy from the wine cellard, can can request anything from the cellar and pay for only what you drink.
“We are thankful for this opportunity to have served Boulder’s dining community,” the Deerings said in their statement. “We gave it all our love which makes our closing bittersweet. We will miss all our wonderful customers and friends and our special connections with our local arts community like the Dairy Center. We are not taking our closing personally, rather as an opportunity to move on to new things.”
The Deerings took over the old Alba space at 2480 Canyon Road in August 2013.
I applauded the restaurant in a in spring of 2014, tipping my hat to the creative food, the cocktail program and the all-around vibe and service:
It is all part of a pleasant, welcome-to-our-house atmosphere. The Greeks are renowned for hospitality — though they weren’t the most well-behaved guests at Troy — and Volta is a fine addition to the Boulder dining scene.
Folks, we’ll miss you.
Here’s the schedule for Volta’s final week:
Lunch: 11 a.m.-2:30pm (Friday and Saturday only)
Happy Hour: 4:30 p.m.-6 p.m.
Dinner: 5 p.m.-9 p.m. (Tuesday-Saturday)
Farewell Sunday Brunch: 10 a.m.-2:30pm
Farewell Sunday Taverna Night Dinner: 5 p.m.-10 p.m.
