The Colorado Rapids have an open designated player slot after all. Gabriel Torres, the first designated player in club history, is no longer considered a DP, according to the .

Torres was initially a DP due to the the club paid for him in 2013 when he was acquired from San Francisco FC in Panama.

The change in Torres status “means the transfer fee has been paid off or the amount left is small enough to no longer make him a DP,” according to Jane Sexton, a spokeswoman for MLS.

The 26-year-old Panamanian international has 6 goals and 2 assists with Colorado in 32 appearances (18 starts).

Last season, Torres earned $262,500 in guaranteed compensation, according to . That was fourth most on the club behind Edson Buddle ($325k), Vicente Sanchez ($286,666.67) and Marvell Wynne ($285k).

This offseason, the Rapids to a young designated player contract, and last week as the highest paid designated player in club history. That leaves one open DP slot.
