Wilin Rosario as a first baseman in a spring game against the Texas Rangers Thursday. Can the catcher make a big impact for the Rockies in a new position?

The Sports Show’s Woody Paige thinks the Rockies moving Rosario to first base is little more than a quick fix.

“I think we all agree that no matter how good he gets at first base, he can’t be a long-term solution there,” Paige said.

For Paige’s co-host Les Shapiro, Rosario will of course make good plays as a first baseman as he gets more practice, but his biggest attraction is his trade value.

“Look he’s hitting .317 now. He’s leading the club in hits with 13 this spring. He’s got two home runs and ten RBIs,” Shapiro said. “Trade him now while he’s still worth something. They don’t need more punch in that lineup they need more pitch in that lineup.”

Paige doesn’t think the Rockies would get a good pitcher for Rosario, but believes the Rockies can him use him three times a week in the field and keep him for pinch-hitting situations.
