Starbucks Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz discusses the company’s “Race Together” initiative during a March 18 shareholders meeting. (Stephen Brashear, Getty Images)
Regarding the scorn, attitude and disrespect heaped on Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz for trying to initiate discussion on race, I refer to Margaret Wheatley’s quote: “Be brave enough to start a conversation that matters.”
This conversation matters, and Schultz was willing to take on the risk, which is more than I can say for the naysayers.
