Peyton Manning will be the Broncos’ quarterback in 2015 but what happens when February rolls around again next year?
Whether as Super Bowl champs or not, The Broncos may be looking to replace Manning next offseason.
Who will his successor be? Brock Osweiler — who the team spent a second round pick on in 2012– is next on the depth chart but is he ready for the pros? He hasn’t exactly seen a lot of playing time with Manning under center, not to mention, this is the last year of his rookie contract.
The Sports Show’s Woody Paige and Les Shapiro threw out an interesting nominee for Manning’s successor. His brother Eli. Shapiro pointed out that Eli is in the final year of his contract with the New York Giants. Elway may look to flake a flyer on the 34-year-old veteran quarterback.
“There is another guy named Manning out there who’s at the end of his New York Giants contract and if the Giants either don’t want him back or he doesn’t want to go back to the Giants and the Broncos are looking for a quarterback, would you want to plug in Eli Manning?” Shapiro said.
Paige suggested a quarterback Denver is more familiar with in Philip Rivers. Shapiro responded saying that Rivers is on record saying he doesn’t want to leave San Diego. However, Shapiro believes that if the Broncos’ still have a Super Bowl-ready team and can pay him a good amount of money, Rivers could be enticed to come to Denver.
Paige also brought up Drew Brees as a potential candidate but the Saints quarterback’s contract isn’t up until 2017.
